USB Memory Stick Problems

I have USB memory Stick/Flash drive, whatever you wish to call it, which I use for transferring files between computers.

The three computers involved have Windows ME, XP Home and XP Pro respectively.

Yesterday I put some file son it from a computer running a recently reinstalled version of ME. Everything was fine, i removed it properly.

When I tried putting it on to the computer whish has XP Home installed, I got the following message:

"G:\ is not accessible.

The request could not be performed because of an I/O error."

Up to this point the only problems I've had are a few "Can't recognise the device" errors and theyve been fine after I've reconnected it.

This error means I can't get to the files, so don't want to format it. It might just be the computer, as I haven't been able to test it elsewhere. There don't appear to be any problems with anything in device manager, except a network card which has been disabled.

Anyone know of any possible solutions?

I have all XP updates as of about September 2003. I don't have net access from that machine, which is why I bought the USB stick.

I honestly have no idea which file system it is. I've now been able to try it on a PC at uni and it still doesnt work, so i guess it is something to do with the stick.

I think noby means formatt the "stick". If you have stuff on the stick move it to the WinMe machine.
But, honestly, I have 6 different sticks that have never been formatted. I move info daily between Win98 and WinXp. Of course, you have to run the setup on the Win98 machines first.
When you say the computer says "G:\ is not accessible" have you gone ahead and looked in Windows Explorer's directory for the "stick".
