Plz Help! Comp Doesn't Boot! :(

Postby Triggez » Fri May 21, 2004 4:39 pm

hi all - yesterday i was deleting a whole lotta stuff in order to make space for some new programs i was going to install. After installing the programs today, i was asked to restart my computer. I restarted my computer, but it doesnt boot up! This is what it says:

NTLDR is Missing
Press Ctr+Alt+Del to restart

I try and restart it, but the same thing comes up! I contacted the manufacturer of the new product i've just installed ( Sonar 3 Studio Edition) and tech support said it was a file that windows xp needed in order to boot up. So my guess is that i probably deleted it by accident :( sigh Is there anything i can do to get my comp up and running? I have very important files! Restoring my windows xp will delete everything :(. Could i buy an alternate harddrive and transfer my files? Basically my priority is getting my files out of there safely. Ty all in advance

*I've tried holding down F8 to boot up in safe mode - didn't work
*No discs/floppies are in my pc

-If anyone needs more info regarding my pc ask and i'll tell ty

I just found this on the net concerning my problem. Should i try this? Would this delete any files i have in my harddrive?

Windows XP users

Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer.
When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.
Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter.
You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password.
Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter "E". This letter may be different on your computer.

copy e:\i386\ntldr c:
copy ntdetect.com c:

Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.

*Site i got it from: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000465.htm
