When i shutdown, restart or logoff using the icons on the start button, my PC takes around 5 minutes t realize ive told it to shutdown etc, and then when it finally does go to the shutdown screen it takes another 15mins. A while ago it seemed to work fine and shutdown in around 15sec. Now i am forced to shutdown using the towers manual on/off button which is not very reliable.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Owen... #1- Have you done a complete virus scan and spybot scan?
If so did you update Xp with Hotfix Q329170? It is known to cause problems. Try going to Control Panel / Add/Remove and removing it if you did.
Are you using a NVidia card? If so check out this .
Here's a Registry tweak that helps some Winxp machines:
Another Tweak...
· Goto Control Panel, then goto Power Options.
· Click on the APM Tab, then check the "Enable Advanced Power Management support."
· Shut down your PC. It should now successfully complete the Shut Down process.
Finally here's a great that contains some of the above and lots more Winxp shutdown issues.
