Help and Support

Postby Torquay-Pete » Tue Aug 10, 2004 2:04 pm

Hi to all again , I have just clicked on the "Help and Support" icon in the Start folder and recieved a message saying "helpctr.exe" not found!!!
This is really worrying as I use this facility quite a lot!!!
Any ideas anyone???? Thanks as usual Pete

Try this from Annoyances.org:

Browse to C:\Windows\Options\{INSTALL or CABS} folder and locate WIN_16.CAB folder, and in it locate a clean copy of the file HELPCTR.EXE and then drag a copy of it to the C:\Windows\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries folder.

Hi Torquay-Pete Image

is actually a part of the Windows XP Help system. This application is started when you click Start > Help and Support from the Windows taskbar.
Have you used any Reg cleaner programs recently?
Well you can try to reinstall Help and Support.....

To reinstall Help and Support: Go to C:\Windows\inf\pchealth.inf. Right click and choose install. Have your CD handy.

Note: The folder is hidden by default. Go to Start/Run and type in: control folders. View: Show hidden files and folders and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.

Hope this helps
