I don't like most disk cleanup utilities. The tend to delete important stuff. Perhaps you had a virus software on and were trying to access the file with both programs.
I think you should be ok.
Possibly related problem

While using Express, after a while I can't open messages to reply to them, it says I haven't enough memory. same if I try to send. I also can't drag and drop or cut and paste on certain applications, probably can't do other things as well if I needed to, does this indicate faulty memory ?

It's unlikely - it probably indicates that some file or application still isn't set up properly. you could try reinstalling outlook express?

My desktop items won't drag and drop so would I would think that suggests something outside Express is the problem. Quite often I get a small windows pop-up with an error to do with a syshost file or somert which creates a log file but I can't locate the file, doesn't say where it puts it. Is that related to this problem ? I've been loading one or two packages from the net recently, that may explain the odd behaviour I've been gettin.
