Thanks man, that worked really well

Okay, so i managed to find out that it was the error 0x0000008E. I did a search on yahoo to see what the symptoms were and found them here:

It says that this can be corrected by installing service pack one. That's totally fine, but i've tried to find the service pack one update and all i can get is links to windows auto-update, which defaults to service pack 2 (which i want to avoid installing)

Can anyone help me out with this?

Thanks,
Jack

This is the Network Install full download
Just click the file xpsp1a_en_x86.exe when it's finished downloading.

I downloaded the service pack successfully (which took a while on 56k!).

But now i'm a bit worried about installing it as i'm using an illegal version of XP Proffesional. I downloaded a program that allows you to change your cd-key, and i got a program called XP Key Recoverer and Discoverer. This seems to generate working keys for SP1 according to pages i found on google.

Is it safe to use this key that has been generated with SP1a? The last thing i want is to be locked out of my computer!

Thanks again,
Jack

PM me

You are getting into an area that will probably get further posts deleted.
