I am trying to set file permissions in xp on an ntfs volume and I know in win2k you right click on the file or folder and click properties and then security then you would set the permissions but in xp I cant it just has sharing and security and there is no option to set permissions. Please help...

Have you tried right clicking on the desired file and selecting Properties and then clicking on the Security tab? It looks like you may be able to do what you want here or by clicking on the Advanced button on this display.

The problem is I dont have the security tab so I cant do anything as far as setting permissions.

Are you running XP Pro or Home? I have Pro so maybe that is a difference between the two products.

I have xp pro thats why I cant understand why I dont have the security tab its wierd. Its a brand new installation tos o I am not sure what the problem is. I looked on microsoft but they had no answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go into Tools/Folder Options/View and uncheck Use simple file sharing. You will want to apply the change to all folders probably.

Hey thanks alot I really appreciate it. I wish I new more about xp but I am learning... I feel stupid right now cause it was so easy but I learned something new. Thanks man..
