C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\system

[Gecko]

Windows XP Pro sp2
Does anyone know what the below file does/is?

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\system

and before you ask, no there is no file extension
4.75 MB (4,980,736 bytes) archive
This file gets written to on shutdown and is created on the OS install date.

The reason I ask is because the above mentioned file got corrupted and my system would not boot.
This file is not on the Windows XP Pro CD, I could not expand it from the CD.
Thank goodness that I have weekly system backups.
