My W2K SP4 PC has been runing fine for months. Now, when I open up Media Player 9 and select a .wma track for playing - system just hangs. Same with Power DVD player. You can only close the apps via the task manager, then system won't let me log out - just hangs again.

Have run several different spyware & anti virus progs - only picked up a few tracking cookies, but doesn't make any difference.

The only thing installed recently has been new game - Call of Duty. Seems to use a similar engine to that of Return to Castle Wolfenstein which has run alongside WMP since installation.

What kind of sound card do you have ?

Have you tried updating the drivers ?

No separate soundcard - I guess there's one on the mobo? Reinstalled drivers on weekend from original cd with mobo.

Anyway - went into it tonight (after my son had been on the internet all day) and everything works ok. Don't you just love our hobby.................
