I have been having a problem recently where windows explorer has been acting up. Basically, when I try to open a page (either internet exporer or any other browser) I get a prompt telling me that "windows explorer / internet explorer has encounetred a difficulty and needs to close, sorry for an inconvience, etc, etc." This doesn't happen all the time, about 50% of the time the browser works perfectly. I don't know where to begin to address this problem, any help would be appreciated.

Copying and pasting the exact error message would be a big help. But you can give this a shot in the meantime.

I have tried the above links, but to no avail. The error message reads as follows;

AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer:6.0.2000.2180 ModName: ole32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2595 Offset: 00040d0

I would suggest that you update Internet Explorer through .
the latest version is 6.0.2900.2180 you have 6.0.2000.2180.
Also update your Windows too through the sane link.

I have updated explorer and the problem is still persisting, albeit possibly to a lesser extent. Anything else I can try?

Start > Control panel > Administrative tools > Event viewer > click on Application
Look for any red or yellow icons on the right double click the icon and post back here what it says.

Ok, the red icon says the following
"The COM+Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was C0000005 was from line 44 of d: \qxp_slp\com\com1x\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.ccp. Please contact microsoft product services to report this error. "

There is also a yellow "warning" icon but I am presuming that the problem lies in the information above???

I would check for spyware.

Go to the Helpfull Weblinks above left and download Spybot, update it, imunize it, and run it.

If you get some heavy hits, you might want to post a hijack log file to our hijack help forum section.

Sounds like an auto dialer tryiing to phone home on your dime. :shock:
