My work PC not functioning...

Postby Aedh » Fri Jul 29, 2005 11:10 pm

Hello folks;

I was updating Spybot S & D from 1.3 to 1.4 on of my PC's at work yesterday and ran into a problem.

After 1.4 was done installing I was prompted to reboot. I allowed the reboot.

Now I get no display (no signal) on the monitor and no power to mouse or keyboard.

I swapped video card, tested the peripherals on another PC, made sure all the connections where seeated properly, and still no go.

The PC on the inside seems to start up normally. One thing I noticed is that the mainboard fan isn't running though I am assuming it only runs when it's hot enough (not sure though).

I have tested the monitor, mouse, and keyboard on other systems and they work.

The system specs as I can find them are:

ABit KD7-E
AMD CPU (not sure the speed)
ASUS 7100 Pro 64
MS Windows 2000
Enlight 300W PS
1024 RAM

If anyoner has any idea what might be causing these symptoms I would greatly appreciate any help or thoughts given to this issue... (my boss would be happy too :) )

When you say mainboard fan isn't running, do you mean the CPU fan or is there a Northbridge fan?

If the CPU fan is not turning, it needs to be replaced.

If thats the case, remove the cpu fan and inspect the AMD CPU, make sure that it hasn't melted down in its plastic socket mount. If that happens, a new fan won't do much :(

The Northbridge fan is no big deal if it stops turning

Just swapped the power supply and still no display or power to the mouse/keyboard.

I am assuming my mainboard took an inopportune time to die on me...
