newly built computer having probelms at startup

Postby bsxiong » Sun Nov 20, 2005 6:02 am

hi all,

I just builted a new computer and now i'm alrady having a problem. I don't believe this is a serious problem, but maybe a bio prob.

heres the situation:

After installation of XP pro, and even before i install it, when i turn on the computer, when the motherboards logo appears, the computer doesn't load up the OS, it just stays there and at the bottom, there are two options : hit the del to go to setup, or hit F8 to show BIO POST.

If i don't press anything there is a 60sec wait until it goes to the BIO POST ( where it detects the IDE CONTROLLERS and mouse and keyboards). Then the detection takes another 2min to detect it. And if i press F8 it goes directly to the BIO POST and there is a 2min wait again to detect the controllers. Can anyone help me? This happends everytime i turn on the computer.

what is going on?

On my previous built computer, it takes my directly to the XP logo screen after the motherboards logo appears.

Are you using an IDE drive or a SATA drive?

It sounds like the BIOS is searching SATA drives for the raid setup
If you are using IDE, try disabling the onboard raid controller in the BIOS

According to the manual right off of the main BIOS menu
"IDE configuration"

"Onboard IDE Operate Mode" this should be set to "Enhanced Mode"
"Enhanced Mode Support" should be On
"IDE Detect Time Out " try setting this to 10

If you leave the system alone, does it finally boot up and run?

Like after 5 minutes, it boots into Windows and you are ready to go?

If so , how much memory do you have on board?

Solution founded!

Turns out, it needed another HDD. Don't know why, but getting two hdd on it works fine now. I guess the motherboards wants two hdd instead of just one.

thanks for those helps peoples.
