Recovering from A System recovery

Just recently I did a system recovery (yesterday)
when it booted windows, all was well... well, almost all...
I do not have a soundcard ( I used onboard sound) but I used to have sound, now, I don not have any sound.
when I go to play a cd in windows media player, it says something like:
"Windows media player cannot play the cd because It cannot find the proper support on your computer"

When I drag windows around they leave marks all over the place, you know, like when the cpu usage is 105%
the next problem is also video, before I did the recovery I had support for multiple monitors, now however, I don't.

I use an nvidia graphics card, or at least thats what im using, it might not be quite what my pc is using lol

Thanks for the help in advance!

It sounds like you just need the drivers for those two hardware devices.

For the onboard sound your best bet is to download the sound drivers from

For your video card visit download site.

You should check your Device Manager (start > control panel > system > hardware tab > device manager)
To makes sure that you have no yellow icons other than the sound and video.

sorry, I guess I didn't explain, look at my posts in th linux forums and you'll understand. But if you're to lazy it was just an installation of suse Linux that currupted my windows installation.

just to update:

I instaled the latest drivers for my onboard sound from gateway, it worrks just like it did before

I installed the drivers for my video card, also from gateway, it turns out that they have all the drivers for every device, right on there site! that works greeat as well!

I looked under devce manager and saw that 4 other things were missing drivers, I asked gateway support and they showed me the pages to get the downloads for them as well.

one other thing, I had a tv-card that was functioning before. Now I can't install it. Before I do anything I will try and get these drivers installed and see if that's why. If it isn't, do you think I should take out the card and then put back in and see if windows finds it?

just to "finish" this pos up:

i went through through the "run around" with Gateway online tech support, they told me which drivers to install, but I still could not figure out one driver, and my tv card wasn't working either.
I decided to ship it back to Gateway (yes, its absolutely free, parts AND labor), just had to pay the 40 bucks for shipping, my thought being:
"I'll get it insured, after all, right now I have no data on it anymore. Even if it DOES get lost in the mail, I'll just get a new computer worth $1200, wich will be even better than if I get my old(er) computer back, right?"

thanks for all the help Gecko.
