Hello TD7116, and welcome to our forum

Please download HijackThis http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/hijackthis.zip and save it to your desktop.

To extract HijackThis:

1. Right-click your file HijackThis.zip and from the menu select "Extract All".
2. The Extraction Wizard Window will appear, Click "Next".
3. Click Browse and navigate to "C:\" or the "C:\Program Files" and click "Create A New Folder" and call it "HJT" or "HijackThis" or whatever that is easy to remember and then click OK.
4. Click the Extract button.
5. Close the HijackThis.zip dialogue box.

Now double-click on hijackthis.exe and when the window opens, Press the Scan now and save a logfile button and then when it is done, copy and paste the contents of the notepad it opens as a reply to this post.

TD7116,

You have a couple of thing going on and it might take a few post to get them all resolved.

Be aware that Viewpoint Toolbar is considered to be spyware as it does collect infromation on your online activity.
I would suggest that you use the Control panel > Add or Remove Programs to uninstall Viewpoint Toolbar

Warning these instructions are for this thread only!
You should never attempt to use them for anything else!

Please copy this to Notepad and save it to your desktop or print it. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Please download
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool";
it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes.
Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

I unistalled "viewpoint toolbar" but I also have programs called "viewpoint manager(remove only)" and "viewpoint media player." Should I also unistall/remove these programs?

Thanks

TD7116,

We need to use another removal tool called vundofix

Please download and save it to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
When VundoFixopens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the
Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

After the reboot(s) post a new Hijackthis log in your reply.

Hello TD7116,

Warning these instructions are for this thread only!
You should never attempt to use them for anything else!

Please copy this to Notepad and save it to your desktop or print it. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.
You should not have any other open windows when you are following the procedures below.

WinAntiVirus Pro 2007 is a rogue anti-spyware program that displays fake alerts, and downloads other programs onto user's machine without permission.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following:
(They may or may not be there)
mav_startupmon.exe
uwa7pcw.exe

Start HijackThis and click "Do a system scan only" put a check next to each of the following entries:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mav_startupmon] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007\mav_startupmon.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [uwa7pcw] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007\uwa7pcw.exe" -c
Now click the "Fixed checked" button and then close HijackThis

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:
WinAntiVirus Pro 2007

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Remember to reset these when done.
Delete the following Folders:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007\

If you cannot delete this folder then:
Please download to your desktop.

Click killbox.exe, now select options and click on "Remove Directories also put a check next to "Delete on reboot".
Now click on the "All files" button (it will turn green)

Next copy the below red part:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007\

Click 'File' in the killbox Menu on top and choose Paste from clipboard
Now click the red X icon to delete this folder on reboot
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be removed on next reboot and asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES

If you don't get that message, reboot manually.

Restart your computer and post a new HiJackThis log when you reply.
