Re-allocating Hard Drive Space

Postby Muddy » Fri Aug 17, 2007 4:03 pm

:?: Hello! Here is my question. On my laptop I have a 40 gig hard drive with 2 partitions. The C: drive has 20 gigs and the D: drive has 20 gigs. The D: drive is an extended logical drive. Can I delete the D: partition and re-allocate that space to my C: drive thru Windows or do I need a Program like Partition Magic to do this? I am using Windows XP Pro. Thank You!

Muddy,

Windows cannot re-allocate space to an existing partition, so yes you will need something like Partition Magic.
In fact Partition Magic is what I would recommend, I have used it a lot and it has never failed me.

As always when you do any changes to a HDD at the partition level you should always backup your data!

One question though isn't you system restore image/files on your D drive?

 Hello Gecko! Thanks for the info on my Laptop! I want to re-allocate the space on my D: drive back to the C: drive so I will try Partition Magic! No my systems restore image is not on my D: partition. I did a clean install of Windows XP Pro with my Windows OEM disk and built it up how I wanted it, and then made a Ghost Image of the C: partition. This seems to be the Best way to make a true System Recovery disk for me. Thanks Again for the help!!!!! Muddy!
