doing a windows repair install

My daughter's machine got hosed by adware from free game sites.
I installed Norton and that actually disabled a lot of network and internet devices like the DLink Wireless drivers and Wan Miniport drivers, or maybe it corrupted them.

Uninstalling and re-installing drivers is having no effect. She has a lot of I-tunes on the PC so I would rather not do a full new Windows clean install. Will a repair install help? What files are at risk when doing a repair if any?

thanks

Hi dvinput

Try running this program CCleaner Then boot into Safe Mode and run Norton.

After that check to see if your firewall was reconfigured by Norton.

You might also want to download and run Microsofts Defender, it can kill most of what's out there.

As for the repair install, the items at risk would be stuff saved to the desk top. After the repair, you would still have the same problem unless it is a windows file that is corrupted.

If that doesn't work, repost in Hijack Support with Gecko and Liljim. They have some other tools that should save the day

Hope this helps

The general view from other forums that I visit is that norton is no longer up to the job and I must agree with it so I would remove it from your machine and replace it with avg antivirus and antispyware both freeware. I have been using them for a couple of years now without any problems. Here are some extra freebies that will help you clean your machine.
