Update Screw-up, Please help

Windows updater popped up with a request to install a few updates. Sure no prob, pretty standard. Until it couldn't update and gave me an error code, 8007045a.

So I searched around online (cause we all know how great MS is for support) and found a forum where someone else was having a similar problem, and he was told to run REGSVR32 for about a dozen or so .dll's.

So I start following the intructions and managed to get all .dll's in the list re-registered (After I download about five missing ones) except qmgr.dll and qmgrprxy.dll. Each gives me the error "was able to open but call to register failed, error code 0x8007007e.

So I download a few replacement .dll's, and change ownership so I can modify/replace them. However I still cannot access or remove or replace them, it simple says I was denied.

I did a full scan with spybot and avast, niether found anything, which doesn't surprise me since the comp is two weeks old.

I tried running win updater again, thinking maybe now it will work but I still get the same behavior. And since the original error code seems to be a win 2000 one I am REALLY stumped.

All I want to do is get this damn update done so I can get back to more important things (games). Please, I'm stuck and am in desparate need of some help.

The only thing I can suggest if you are a gamer, is to remove Vista and install XP. You'll notice a very real performance leap. Vista was made in India and as anything farmed out, its a royal piece of crap. Most people won't admit that it is worthless, for fear of appearing stupid.

I have to agree with icecube, IMHO Vista is the sequel to Millennium.

I felt the same way. But when I requested XP from best buy (where I got the comp) they told me it wasn't an option. Bastards.

Sounds like a great idea to me. Anyway I am aquiring it now. Do you think I am I gonna have problems with my sata drives?

The Sata drives work terrific with XP. Make sure only one drive is hooked up for the install.

I do about one bust down a month. If you bought Vista Ultimate or Business you are entitled to a bust down to XP Pro see the first link.

First borrow a copy of XP pro with a good product key that works. (You are not stealing a product key, you are just forcing an install) There are three flavors of XP: Corporate, OEM and Retail. Corporate key works with Corp, Oem key works with OEM Retail key works with Retail. You can't mix and match. Once you install, you will be instructed to phone home to activate. When you call Microsoft have your Vista Key and tell them what you did they will walk you through the activation over the phone. It takes about 3 minutes.

A little goodie I will share with you, if you bought a Dell with Vista and can locate someone with a Dell factory (corporate) XP cd. You can probably do a complete install without even having to activate it.(you might have to go to Dell for a driver or two). It seems that their cd checks to see if it's a Dell. If it is it will run.

I'm sure you will notice the pick up in speed with XP--Hope this helps

Have you noticed the pattern to windows launches? They come out as soon as the current OS works properly. Forcing the general public to beta test thier software for them, and ensuring the common man MUST deal with glitches and blue screens. It's bullshit. Imagine if GM did the same thing.

Vista will work great, just as soon as microsoft has a new buggy beta OS they can force down our throuts.
