Have you tried using a PS/2 mouse to see if that helps?
I'd try repairing WinXp but you can lose data doing so. You can do a reinstall ("dirty" install) without those problems:
Start / Click Run / Type cmd and Click Enter / Type: winnt32 /unattend Click Enter.
This will assure that there are not damaged system files causing the problems.
See if this helps or we'll try more.

Can you post the voltage figures from your power suppy. The rating on the side of your box. +12v +5v +3.3v. Like the ones in my signature.

winnt32 /unattend is "not reconized as an internal or external command"

as for the power supply, +3.3 +5 +12 (12v 420w max)

I considered the power supply, especially because when it seems to sit for awhile its more likely to boot (or so it seems, could be coincidence)

I put in a rush order for a 480w (antec I beleive) from new egg. If its not it oh well. It my cheapest hardware replacement that has a chance of working, as opposed to mb or video card. 420 could be a bit wimpy and it was suggested in passing on another forum.

Fell free to shoot me any other ideas and ill try them although my knowledge of bios settings are lacking so youd have to be specific with that.
P.S. Im free of spyware and viruses, and fully patched windows wise. I do these things as regular maintence, so Im a step ahead there.

These are the specs for the Antec

+5V @ < 47A
+3.3V @ < 48A
+12V @ < 18A

They should do just nice
