To clean up behind a moron.

I will try to keep the venom to a minimun in this post, but I am trying to fix my grandmother's computer for the fiftieth time because her idiot son can't stop looking for the most twisted perversions and clicking on every popup that the darkest recesses of the internet have to offer.

The current dilemma is that the wireles nic I had installed almost a year ago that had been working fine does not seem to exist. All drivers for it are gone, the device manager cannot find the hardware. The system is defaulting back to it's intregrated broadband, and does not even send power to the card.

I get the same behavior on both pci slots, the computer reports the network controller has no drivers, but nowhere does it reference the d-link card it has.

Apperently this happened at about the time the fool tried to install google chrome, and aborted the installation when it asked for money. I uninstalled it and since I removed it the rundll32 error is not coming up anymore.

Please, if anyone has any ideas share 'em.

PS - also if anyone wants a 50 year old drunken mooch incapable of cleaning up after himself, working or the basics of civil conduct, he is all yours.

You could always install an Internet filter. That should stop him.

Tried. Not only was the bitching incessant, it did not even slow him down.

Hell, I have seen him render that comp completely useless when it was not even hooked up to the internet, and all he claimed to be doing was playing hearts.

Truly, his continued survival boggles my mind, I would have expected him to drown in a toilet or have one too many pills in his cocktail by now.

Heh. Anyway, any ideas about the missing NIC?

I the only thing I can add to what liljim said is while you're in the BIOS make sure the pci setup is right.
Then password protect the BIOS so you know they won't get back in there.
Next make sure all the networking and tcpip Service are "started" or "Managed"; Control panel > Admin tools > Services

Might be easier to do either a repair install or clean install. Then when it is fixed, grab an expendable keyboard and have him "test it out". Then grab a hammer, and beat the crap out of his fingers!

Oh come on jim! I feel generous, and I will even toss in a bottle of febreeze! ;p

Thanks for the feedback, and I would leave it offline were it his, and not my grandmothers. Having trouble finding any ambition, so I think I will make him stew a few more days before I try again. I will follow all tips here, and if I am still at a loss I will post here again.
