You will need to make a few changes to your system so we can find out what is causing this problem.

Start > Control panel > System > Advanced tab > Startup and recovery section > Settings button. In the System Failure section check the box for “Write an event to system log”
And uncheck the box for “Automatically restart”.
Now when the problem happens you will get a BSOD (blue screen of death)
write down what is on the blue screen and post it back here.

Let’s see if we can track this down.

Start > Control panel > Administrative Tools > Event viewer
In the left side window of the Event viewer select “Application”
look for any red X icons in the right side window.
Click on the red X icon and copy the text from the error message to a text document.
Now do the same thing for “System” in the left side window,
then post back here with your findings.

Is this windows XP Home or Pro?
Have you updated Windows to service pack 1?

It's XP Home. I just bought it 2 weeks ago, it came with SP1a. I also downloaded most all other updates.
