Postby skeletor » Sat Feb 05, 2005 8:13 pm

I am thinking about installing a copy of linux but I am unsure what flavor to try any suggestions? Also will I need seperate hard drives if I want to run windows xp and linux on the same machine(not at the sametime of course)? One more question has anyone used lindows and if so how is it?

Linux

From what I understand Mandrake 10 is probably the most user friendly vesion of Linux. There is a version called Ubuntu Version 4.10 that comes with 2 cd's. One of them is a "live" cd, meaning you dont have to install it on your pc. This meaning you can check it out without having to install it on your system.

I would have to agree with BPB,
Mandrake 10 would be a good place to start. It dual boots well with XP and has better hardware support than previous versions. The GUI is basicly the same point and click interface (with the KDE enviroment). You can install it on the same HDD as windows as long as you have enough room although its safer to install it to another hdd, especially if you dont have any experience installing it.I can warn you ahead of time that the driver support for ATI vid cards arent very good, however nvidia and linux play nicely together.
