I have just bought a 160 gb hard drive

I have an asus p4p800 deluxe mobo with onboard raid

the drivers for the RAID controllers are installed "VIA VT6410 IDE RAID CONTROLLER"

the drive I wish is set as primary master

....when I access this drive from windows my comuter freezes ...unlocks for a few secondonds ,freezes and this process continues until I reset

the computer works perfectly fine untill I atemt to access this drive
I have via raid too which shows the drive with a warning under device status "has risk of data loss"

I have never used RAID before so I figure I must be doing something wrong....any help will be appriciated

pc specifications are below

windows xp prof
80bg hard drive
120 gb hard drive
p 2.4 gb processor
1024 RAM
soundblaster live soundcard

raid by default needs more than one drive to work... raid = reduntant array of inexpensive drives.

if you don't have more than one drive hooked up to your raid controller, you can usually still use the drive, just without any raid capabilities. Just load the regular driver for the controller... not the raid driver.
