Primary Master Drive Failure

Postby theminister1 » Tue Nov 23, 2004 4:43 pm

Hey guys, Im really needing some help. Whenever I try to run a high spec game such as need for speed 2, or vampire bloodlines, eihter the game refuses to run with the error message "(whichever game I try) has encountered a serious error and cannot run, do you wish to send an error report to microsoft, or my system just crashes and reboots. During the startup after windows has shut down I get the message "Primary Master Drive Failure" and I need to reset the pc to get it working again. Its very frustrating, and I was wondering if anybody could help me? I have the radeon x800 saphire pro graphics card, 512mb RAM, and an athlon XP 2700 processor, so its not like my system shouldnt be able to handle the games. Thanks alot.

Are all your drivers up to date, video, sound, latest Direct X...?

Also I would turn off auto reboot:

Star Button > Control Panel > System > Advanced Tab >
Startup and Recovery section > Settings button >
Uncheck the Automatically Restart check box
and check the Write an event to the system log

Now when you see the BSOD write down the error code and post it back here
This way we can trace down this error.

This might resolve your problem:
Ati has new drivers for your video card, they are dated 11/12/04.
ATI recommends Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher to be installed for these drivers.
”This particular software suite updates both the ATI Display Driver (version 8.071),
and the CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER (version 4.11).”

You can download the new drivers from
