ram question

Postby robbro » Fri Jan 21, 2005 1:02 pm

recently bought corsair 1gb stick of DDR 400 ram, when put other 512DDR400 ram in the other dim ram slots the computer wont start?

Is my ramm slots dammaged maybe? or is it to do with the timings? because they seem to be the same 200mz bandwith and memory timings rates of : 3.0-3-3-8.

Im a bit confused :?: maybe my mother board supports a certain amount you can have on one slot, but its a decent mother board (asus a7n8x deluxe).

I just thought my board would be good enough i mean i have had 3x512ram in before :S i dont really understand ... :?: :?: :| :|

I would check your MB manual. (someone here may know the answer off the top of their head) but sometimes you have to have equal amounts of ram in each slot, or your ram has to be placed in certain slots depending on how much ram your installing....

This is how my older MBs were... Things may have changed though

looked at the motherboard manual. doesnt say anything. i think its to do with the ram timings and different brands :S. weird how i can have 1gb ram stick and not install another 512 , but before i used all 3 slots with 3x512 each making more then 1.5gb. Tis a strange one anyway im still confused  . Maybe i needs exactly same stick to be installed on with the new 1gb stick i got  :?: :?:

Maybe your Motherboard does not support 1GB sticks? Are all your sticks PC3200, they all must be the same speed. Check your motherboard again, take a closer look. Make sure the RAM is fully seated, and just check and see if your slots supprt 1GB sticks, and check what the maximum RAM is that you can have with that Motherboard.
