switched hard drives, still reading low gigs

Postby greendestiny » Mon Feb 07, 2005 10:03 am

Hi I have a question, I switched hard drives on my older computer it had a 2 gbyte hard drive. I put in a 10 gb hard drive but when I go to check the size of my c drive it tells me that it is 2 gb. How do I access the larger amount of drive space that comes with the new hard drive. Please let me know step by step cause as you can probably tell I am not that great with computers. :P

There could be several causes for that..The first to check would be the bios.Make sure that the bios is seeing the drive is a 10 GB drive.

DEL
F2
F10
Are common keys for entering bios settings, it depends on your board manufactor. If you can give us a little info about your system we can better help with that.

Another possibility is the size of the partition on the drive, if bios see's it as a 10 GB drive, it may only contain a 2 GB partition.Did you partition and format the drive yourself, or has it been done at all when you put it in? What operating system do you have installed?
