problems with graphics card

Postby sneakysob » Fri Feb 25, 2005 3:04 am

I just got a Geforce Fx 5200 128 mb (Yes I am cheap :P ) My computer already has a Nvidia Geforce 4 Mx 440 64 mb. So heres my problem:

I put in my new card, turn on the new computer, and install the drivers. (I restart) Then I right click on the desk top and and go to properties and select my new grachics card as the graphics card. My computer Freezes. So i turn it off and it doesnt seem like either one is responding. So than i took the Geforce Fx out and went to this web site for help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you uninstall the drivers to the previous vid card? Sometimes you have to do that because if you have 2 vid card drivers they sometimes conflict with one another...

You would do best to start over, put the card back in and boot into safe mode. Go into the device manager and remove all the display adapters. Reboot and let windows detect and install the FX card using the default windows drivers. You will probably be prompted to reboot again, after that you can install the nvidia drivers.

Just for clarification, your not trying to run both cards together are you? The only reason i ask is because your post says nothing about removing the MX 440 card, which if you didnt, you will need to.
