768mb pc266 ram vs 512 pc333 ram. theres more to it...

edit: all memory i mention is DDR

i think its best to give u some system specs first:

My pc has:

HardWare:
Intel Celeron running at 2.4 GHz.
ASUS P4S8X-x (supports only up to pc2700 ram, which i think is the same as pc333)
500 fsb (5 something. im not familiar with fsb speeds, u know how celeron speeds are)
256mb pc266 RAM
128mb ASUS V9520 Magic (the equivalent of Geforce FX 5200)

Software:
Windows XP With Service Pack 2
AVG Antivirus 7
ZoneAlarm
(i gave some of these programs because they're always running on the background)

so i intend to buy some more ram for my pc. mainly because i like to play games (like The Sims 2), too

bad i have a celeron.

if my board could support pc400, then i wouldnt have a problem now. so i am down to two

possible choices. what i want to know is what choice will be better. i either:

1.) Get the 512mb pc333 ram. and remove my old pc266 ram, i can keep it or sell it

then.
2.) Get the 512mb pc266 ram, making my memory 768mb. i am not sure if this is possible

but i would like to "share" mem to my video card, about 128 mb so it would be 256mb,

leaving me with 648 mb of ram. if its not possible to share mem, then it would just be

768mb ram.

so there. is frequency speed important here? will 768mb of pc266 better than 512 pc333 especially when playing games? if i dont play games then why would i need the memory that much, so games will be a factor. im leaning towards getting the 768mb pc266 and sharing the mem.

i would just like to know what u guys think is better. thanks a lot! i hope u can approve one of my suggestions here. but i would also like to know what u think. but please dont tell me to upgrade to a pentium :D. so im trying to find out what is best with my situations. thanks a lot! :D

I would go with the 512 PC2700 (yes its 333 mhz)

A higher FSB gives you greater overall system bandwidth. You wont have as much but it would be faster. Your CPU FSB is probably 533, im not an intel man but im pretty sure thats right. For gaming, the faster memory will serve you well, then you still have the option later on to add more if you choose.
