cpu temp

Postby robbro » Thu Apr 28, 2005 1:20 pm

Hi, should i be worried that my temp when i switch the power on goes very high for like 1 sec then when i see the bios screen it goes back to normal ?

I dunno what causes it to go high when i switch it on im thinking maybe its to do with power supply ? or maybe a surge going through as i switch the power on button on pc ?

Anyone got any ideas as i dont wanna damage my cpu. Also i noticed my themal paste was dried up, so i just put some new thermal paste on the cpu and temp seems a bit lower at idle. but when switching pc on it still goes high for one sec as i do that.

and this is what i get on boot vis

I'm sure that someone else will have more to say on this, but here are my thoughts..

I would say that when you turn on your comp, you will normally see a jump in temps.... All a CPU is is a bunch of transistors (very simply) When current runs through all these transistor they produce heat...

The more activity your CPU is doing the more it'll heat up. Starting up, it's running through a lot of stuff... This temp jump then stabalizes once it gets into a "normal" operating mode...

I think that you would also see some temp jumps when your pc goes from a standby or sleep mode to normal operation.

Do you have any idea how high the temp jumps are, and what does it stabalize at? I looked through the pic you posted, but couldn't tell...

Moderators, please feel free to Delete this if I'm way off base...

Good on ya
