PC tells me hard drive not formatted but it is

Postby skax » Fri Jun 10, 2005 11:14 pm

Hi All

I have two hard drives (C & D, OS on C drive) and yesterday when I went to retrive something off my D drive I was told it was not formatted, and do I want to format it now? The day before I had viewed data on it and there was no problems. The only thing I can think which I might have done in the meantime was to delete a user but I cannot see how doing this would affect the hard drive. Any ideas as to how to correct this? I have tried various error checks etc that come with windows but they do nothing. It'll be very disappointing if I lose all the stuff on that drive. There was about 130gig of data.

Thanks

Sounds like the drive is going or might be gone. Things to try:

1. Disconnect the drive. Boot up PC. Shut down PC. Reconnect drive making sure of master/slave configuration.

2. Get a data recovery program that can retrieve the info off of that. GetDataBack is the best I have ever used.

3. Try using Norton Ghost to copy all the info to a new drive to see if you can get the info that way.
