CDRW or Hard drive

Postby lostboy » Thu Jun 16, 2005 11:26 am

Hey guys

Basicly my computer started to stutter a bit, I mean like when moving the mouse from one side of the desktop to the other the mouse would seem to freeze and go freeze and go. If you see what I mean. Also the CDRW light would flash on and off like there was a cd in it even though there wasnt one.
I thought this was down to spyware so I formated my hard drive but still have the same problem. This also happens when playing games which is kinda annoyying.
So I dicided to unplug the CDRW to see if that would help. Now my computer is working fine with no problems.

Would you say theres some thing wroung with my hard drive or my CDRW drive im guessing the CDRW drive but want a second thought on this.

thanks

No big major changes just installed some games. Only seems to happen when the CDRW drive is connected.

Try booting into safe mode to see if the problem still happens:
Restart Windows, after you see the BIOS screen and before Windowes starts to load.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
Use the Arrow key to ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

If it still happens in safe mode then I would say it's hardware related.
If it does not happen in safe mode then I would say it's software related.
