2.0 Card reader/writer, disconnection cause computer restart

Postby Quantum » Sat Aug 06, 2005 2:31 am

 Everytime I disconnect my USB card reader/writer the computer restarts. It does the same thing when I use the icon for safe disconnection. As soon as I hit stop device the computer restarts.

One of the times after the computer came back on a pop-up came up stating the device needs an update. I clicked on update but could not find anything.

please help this is becoming a headache.

What is the make and model of the device? You may need to find the latest drivers for it on the internet.

Does it do it with any other USB devices?

Try going into device manager and deleting everything in the USB section. Reboot.

Bear in mind you might be asked for the cd for any USB item plugged in.

It looks like an IRQ confilct of some sort.

Say you have several USB ports, and you plug the printer into the to top one and then into the middle one and so on, XP thinks you have several printers, ditto for your camera, scanner and palm--it get hairery with the mouse and keyboard,

When you delete all of your USB, it will reinitialize and the system should be more stable.

You have tried the other USB slots on your computer, correct?
