Power Surge Damage

Postby jjnnr » Fri Oct 14, 2005 1:47 am

I think my power company was working on the power the other day and my computer may have suffered a power surge. I already replaced the power supply, and now it powers on at least, but no led lights, and my hdd is not spinning. Everything is connected correctly. What's the next step I should take to find out where the damage is?

Disconnect everything but the Video card and ram see if it will boot.
If it boots, add back one thing at a time starting with the hard drive until you find the bad item.
If it does not boot remove the video card and try again you should get a beep or two.
If it beeps then it’s the video card.
If it does not beep then remove the ram and try again it should beep.
If it beeps then it’s the ram.
If it does not beep then it’s your CPU and/or motherboard.
