Hack Overclocking

Postby omar » Sun Oct 23, 2005 4:11 am

Well, I have no idea how to overclock a processor when your BIOS disables that function. Right now, this is on the second computer in the house, it's a P4 clocked at 1.6Ghz. I'd love it to get it to at least 2 Ghz if not more. Don't know how realistic that is, but anything would be good. I'm pretty sure my BIOS disables the function of overclocking, but I've been told with certain switches on the motherboard and some boot scripts that I can actually modify the processor speed. Now, I really don't have that much cash, so I'm thinking of just opening one side of the casing and having a regular room fan cool the system down from heating. Honestly, I really know nothing about this, so what do I need to tell you guys to give you a better picture (type of motherboard, BIOS version, etc...)

I definitally know you could probably degrade the bios version or maybe run a script like the ones you get when you buy a computer at bestbuy ... The only issue im going to stress to you is its disabled for a big reason. Unless you have full warrenty on your computer i highly discourage trying to pull this off. Overclocking your computer puts serious stress on the proccessor nevermind motherboard or fan issues. Overall i wouldent bother with this unless its absolutly neccessary. I can promise you if you overclock it and keep it that way your going to have hardware issues.

if you can buy a computer motherboard and build your own pc try getting dual proccessors and use the p4 you already have as one. good way to look forward to buying a new system and still get much higher performance..... just a thought.
