CD drive error.:-(

Postby RWD3 » Thu Mar 09, 2006 4:49 am

I am sorry to bother you guys again, your always helping me out and I am thankful. I really feel like a computer nub as of recent.

Ok here it is, I have three games for my computer: Battlefield 2, Need for Speed Most Wanted black, and Lord of the rings the battle for middle earth.

2 of the 3 wont work for some reason.

The first I installed was battlefield and that was about 2 months ago. It works, it was installed with an old 1998 generic cd-drive.

I bought a new cd drive which has no problem reading the battlefield cd.

The second, need for speed I installed today, but when I try to run it an error comes up:

Title: Cannot locate the CD-ROM
Red X and content reads: Pleas insert the correct CD-ROM, select OK and restart application.

The same thing happened to my LOTR battle for middle earth 2 game also.
So I uninstalled it, put in my old CD-ROM and installed it again with the other cd-rom.
Again the same error message came up.

I have run through all of their trouble shooting and it doesn't work...I called Lite-on and they couldn't help, I am going to call EA tomarrow and yell at them.

I was just wondering if any of you knew what was going on...im stressing because I just spent 100 on some games I can't even play, and both cd-roms are not working with these two games alone...they still both read Battlefield and audio cds...:-(....Thank you.

I generally use no cd patches with all my games simply because its easier than swaping disk around everytime you want to play something new, you may benefit from patches just the same. Did you completely replace the old drive with the new one or did you just add the new drive in? I'll tell ya what i run into sometimes, i have 2 identical asus dvd burners in my machine and with certain games i use 1 drive to install but when its finished it wont play on that drive. I have to put the disk in the other drive to play. I dont have an explaination but again i'll use a patch and do away with the disk alltogether.

thanks liljim, but I was desperate and trying various things from other peoples trouble shoots to virtual drives, but I actually did get it to work. I found a site where it had an update for LOTR battle for middle earth 2 that replaced a file and now it will run off the disk. I have yet to try it for Need for speed....

Oh and I also got something like you..Its called jackel and its a trial version, but it allows you to play games wth out the cd in the drive.. its pretty sweet....thanks for the help.

I think NFS most wanted has an update that brings it to v1.3, glad you have the other one sorted and good luck with NFS.
