cd writer help

i need help my cd writer is not working. I get the message Device is not ready, i have tried everythink and cold reboot, reformatting the pc, new device driver updated the firmware, contacted samsung and got a load of bull. Please help me. i have changed the drives around (master, slave), even tried it as the main drive. please help.

I hate to say it, but I can't think of much else to try - do you have a friend with a computer you could try it in in order to see whether the drive works atall?
