how do you know when a monitor is shot?

Postby Eazydeazy » Wed Oct 18, 2006 5:36 am

yesterday my monitor started having green and pink/purple lines all over the screen. does this mean the monitor is shot or broken? is it possible to get it repaired or do i need to buy a new monitor? thanks

Hello Eazydeazy, and welcome to our forums.

It could very well be your monitor but from what you described it could also be your video card.
It's a process of elimination when it comes to monitors and video cards.
Try your monitor on a different system or try a different monitor on your system.

Monitors are really not worth trying to repair in my opinion unless it a big monitor at least 21 inches.
By the time it is fixed you will have spent at least $50 or more and you still have an old monitor.

Four yeas is not bad at all but the colored lines could be from you video card and not the monitor.

so you mean 4 years is a good amount of time for a monitor? i have no idea how long monitors should last. also, when i print stuff out from my computer, it prints normal. so does that mean that it is the monitor? because if it was the video card, would the print outs be all messed up to?
