7950GT or 8600GTS?

All computer hardware support

7950GT or 8600GTS?

Postby Roderz88 » Sat Mar 24, 2007 4:48 pm

Im upgrading my video card next month but im on a bit of a budget as im only a student. Im looking to spend about £150 and im not to bothered about playing next gen DX10 games because my processor is only an AMD Athlon 64 3400+ and i cant afford to upgrade it.

I mainly want to max out games like F.E.A.R, Oblivion and Call of Duty 2 at 1152x864 with 4xAA or maybe even 1440x900 which is my native resolution.

Im not sure if 256MB Video memory is enough either so im wondering of the 512MB 7950GT will be better with high resolutions.

Im sorry if this topic has been raised before.

i have the 512 7950 and i can run fear @ 1280X1024 with everything maxed out and no lag. Im backing it with only a amd64 3700 single core and 1 gig of ddr500.

Normally i keep up with what hardware is capable of what but im a bit behind. I know the 8800 cards are just amazing but i couldnt tell you how the 8600 compares to the 7950. I went from a 265mb 6800 ultra to the 7950 and doubled my 3d mark scores, im satisfied.

:D Not too bad a choice as both cards are cool....... I would go with the 7950 as not to many games support dx10 at the mo but this will change shortly.... If you can stretch to the 8800 cards i guess your future proofing yourself as much as you can these days. Dont worry too much about your cpu as most games rely on graphic card power instead of proccesor power just make sure your power supply can handle both cards as they are thirsty in the power department :D
