Complete system failure!!

Postby Jazzman » Thu Sep 13, 2007 12:06 pm

Oh dear. :(

My desktop pc wont start. It started when I took out the RAM modules to see what they were (I'd forgotten as I bought them years ago, so I was seeing what they were and what to order more of). When I put them back in (2 x 256mb DDR's), windows reported only 256mb of RAM when it usualyl says 512.

I tried every combination and re-combination of the modules, but couldn't get 512 back, and I soon realised one of the modules wasn't being recognised at all. Eventually neither of the modules would work.

Have I just blown them both, or is this more likely to be the actual MoBo broken? I am quite terrified atm

Please help!?!?!

It sounds more like their not seating very well, lay your machine on its side and try reseating them again. Also make sure the pins are still good and shiny, if not you can use a pencil eraser to polish them up.
