faulty DVD Rw drive ?

Postby KenA » Fri Nov 30, 2007 7:38 pm

Hi guys

Lately I notice, when trying to copy DVD discs (copies) i get a an error saying "reading disc failed". Ive tried a few different type of discs.

Could this be as simple as a dirty laser lens or is it more likely to be a faulty drive ?

KenA,

It would depend on how you are burning them.
The key is in your statement "reading disc failed".
It's not the disk you are recording, its the disk that is being read.

If you are first copying the DVD to the hard drive first and then it burns the disk.
Then it could be a hard drive read error, a ram problem or buffer overrun problem.

If you are copying them directly DVD drive1 to DVD burner2.
Then it could be a DVDdrive1 read error, a ram problem or buffer overrun problem.

I am burning them from source Drive 1 to destination Drive 1.

I dont think i have any other PC issues to say it could be RAM.

I've had lasers get weak and found myself replacing the drive. I have a customer who, in his line of work, burns 10-20 disk a day. I have to order drives for him almost every 6 months, after that he starts getting read/write errors.
