Help chosing processor upgrade

Can you help me on this:
I've this old pc equiped with a

Its now with 3 G of RAM.
I want to upgrade to a quicker processor as this pc is used to develop websites using heavy software.
Do you think I could use the new processors like dual core, or others like that?
or should I just recycle bothe MB and processor?

Hi Carl, ive been dancing around this post debating on how to answer it. The problem in having is finding details on that particular board. They make dual core cpus that fit your boards socket however i cant tell if the bios on that board actually supports them. Simply saying a dual core cpu will plug right in your board but a chance it wont recognize it. I lean heavily on saying it will not allow one thus causing you to need a board and cpu both. Its obviously a proprietary board so specs are sketchy at best. The deal with that is going with a new board and cpu can ultimately lead to different memory depending on the combo. Dual core would surely meet your needs with graphic rendering and quad core to a point, greatly depending on the software your using. If you want ill gladly post some part links showing possible options.

I`ve already buyied the folowing:
INTEL CORE DUO E5200 2.5 GHZ
2 Gig pc800 DDR2 RAM
ASSUS P5QL/EPU

Im using win xp for the moment, so I just buyed a 2 G ram module, when win 7 comes out and ready to go, I will increase it.
Everything works great, but one problem came out:
Computer wont reboot from start menu, so I`ll start a new thread as it`s impossible for me to find a solution, after some 5 or more win xp reinstallations...
