PC Specs for optimum Win 7 HP 64-bit experience

Would I enjoy optimum Win 7 HP 64-bit experience with these specs? If not, what would you advise me to upgrade?

6. Sound Card: Creative X-Fi Xtreme PCI Express

Memory looks good, I'd go for a bigger hard drive. A tetra byte would only set you back another $30. I'd recommend a 1 gig video card otherwise use the on-board one. Sound card technology hasn't changed much in the last 8 years. I'd use the on-board sound and get some good speakers.

You might think twice about going with Windows 7 64 bit, it limits your software somewhat. I'd stick with the 32 for now. I've worked on both versions on laptops and there doesn't seem to be any apparent speed advantage with the apps I've run on 64 bit. It is aggravating to have a pop up saying the software you are installing is incompatible with the 64 bit OS. Office 2007 will install on both the 32 and 64.

I'd argue that it's better to get 64bit over 32.

I would say 2GB is the minimum to run Windows 7 comfortably. The next reasonable step up in RAM would be to 4GB, which you need 64 bit to fully utilise.

Also, Kiedis215, you should be less concerned about your experience with your OS and more about what you intend to do with it.

Gaming? Watching video? Storing Images? Playing music? Simple web browsing?

These would give us a better insight into your intentions and we could better advise on what hardware would meet your needs.

I agree with Icecube, 64 bit OS isnt much use if all the software around it is 32 bit. Its nothing more than fools gold, it might appear you have something superior but the reality is the opposite.
