Laptop suddenly running slow?

Hi, i just bought a hp pavilion g6 laptop a week ago, and it seemed to be running nicely and it was playing my games perfectly. Then yesterday, i have no idea what happened, but my games suddenly started running at a low frame rate, of around 17 - 8 fps depending on the game and i have no idea whats causing this.

I have tried lowering the graphics, but i have had no luck, it made no change at all. I don't remember downloading anything in between this change. I have completed a virus scan with avast and windows defender both found found nothing.

I have not had this laptop long and i would really like to know i didn't spend my money on nothing. plz help.

edit: everything but my games seem to run great. so I assume it may be related to the graphics card or ram.

Its tough to answer without knowing the OS, but I will assume Vista/Win7. My guess would be that a driver update happened to your video card drivers. Try to determine what card you have and then download the drivers from the manufacturors website instead of using the Windows ones.
