PC Problems.

Postby Aristocracy » Tue Sep 27, 2011 9:32 pm

Hello, I'm new to the PCTech Forums and looking for some help to figure this thing out...

The other day, my father and I got into it, and he ended up slamming his fist down on top of my PC tower.
When he did that, the power went out on the tower and later, after everything cooled down between us, I tried starting it up and immediately realized it wasn't acting correctly.

It took ages to boot up, sometimes the audio wasn't working at all, every time I opened up a program it would just stop responding and altogether lock up at certain points so gaming was out of the question.

It did however, come around to let me type on Skype for a few minutes last night after running 20 Disk Defragments and a Disk Scan.

I tried System Restoring it, I tried System Repairing with the Windows 7 CD, I tried re-installing a fresh OS on the HDD but the driver doesn't show up in the list for installation anymore.

I tried testing another HDD with the OS installation and it didn't show up either.

If anyone can give me an idea on maybe what could be damaged, or what I could do/buy to solve the problem without having to buy an entirely new computer, I'd appreciate it.

Hi Aristocracy

First off, open up the system and look at the motherboard. There are lots of little capacitors that riseup off of the motherboard. The tops of the caps should be flat. If they are buldging and leaking a brown residue, you have a problem, a bad motherboard.

The only other suggestions revolve around reseating the memory and a bad power supply.
