ok in my sys bios, under integrated peripheral, in order for my computer to see the modem that would not install anywhere com 3, I had to set the onboard parallel port to 278/IRQ5, the onboard parallel mode to: ECP, and the ECP mode set to use DMA 3. This allowed there to be a com 3 in the modem properties and allows the modem to work. But when you go into the device manager and look at the ports, what it added below com1 and com2 is ECP printer port (LPT1). this is the port my modem is running thru. Now I want to hook up my printer also and there is now nothing associated with the connection that the printer cable plugs into. What do I need to do to make both the printer and the modem work at the same time? thnx

OK - from what you've said, your printer port should work absolutely fine. The reason you had to change all those settings for your printer port was probably just to 'make room' for the com3 to exist. It shouldn't have actually changed the ability of your lpt port to work.

You say 'there is nothing associated with the connection that the printer cable plugs into.' I'm not too sure what you mean by this - have you installed the printer drivers for your printer? Is your printer listed in 'start menu -> settings -> printers?
