Computer turns off for no reason

Ok I've been having this problem for awhile. My pc is running fine and then all of a sudden for no particular reason or after any specific amount of time it will completely shut off. I go to restart it and in less than a second it turns off again. But other times it will boot windows and shut off at some random time again. This happened about a month ago and then just stopped until today. What might be the problem?

P.S. Im running a P4 2.4Ghz on 350W

It could be a few things - overheating, a bug in a program or driver, or a faulty piece of hardware. Have you tried leaving it running either in safe mode, or after running msconfig & disabling all startup items? These 2 troubleshooting measures will help you decide whether driver or software is involved in your problems

Its not overheating, could it be the power supply because when it shuts off i push the power button and it tries to power on but quickly shuts off. But if I turn the power switch to off and flip it back on it will start up. Then of course it will shut off at some random time.

That does make it sound like a dodgy powersupply/switch - I'd check out the software issues I mentioned before spending any money though

Why are you so sure it's not overheating?

Think I finally figured it out, a driver wasn't installed on the motherboard. Thanks for the help!
