Out of options with clearing my hard drive

Hello everyone,

Got a interesting problem, I have a computer that I have been trying just about everything I can to fix. Basicly what I am trying to do is completly wipe the hard drive so i can start from stratch. The problem is that every time I run scandisk on the drive it reports that there are 524,288 bytes of data have been found on the drive which is probley just lost files or Directories , or it tells me that the free space is being reported incorrectly . I have tried re-formatting and Removing all partitions and adding them again. When that did not work I assumed that It was possible a virus and was resident in the Boot Sector so I preformed a FIDSK /MBR then SYS C: from a boot floppy, then re-formated just in case. When I rebooted from my boot disk , and ran a scandisk the error was still there. I am out if options on what to do next , and I a hoping someone can give me a step in the correct direction in which to follow next.

Three simple things I could suggest/ask off the top of my head.
Have you run scandisk with the option to check hard drive for bad sectors?
Can you see any files on any of the partitions other than the sys files you put there?
Also have you tried going to the manufacturer’s web site to download diagnostic tool for your hard drive?
