My older (fx270) Sony has starting behaving badly by randomly shutting down. I say it shuts down but that's not really the state it goes to, it's similar to a sleep mode but it won't wake up from it. I've disabled all power save and similar functions (at least I think I have). To restart you have to manually hold the power button down for the requisite time to completely power off and then it powers back up normally.
It does it most often when it has only been running a short while, hardly ever does it after its been on for a long time, so don't think it's an overheating issue, more likely bad connection that finally warms up enought. Doesn't matter whether it's on battery or power cord. I'm not adverse to disassembling it and checking for poor connections and reseating connectors but since it doesn't just simply power off, I'm not sure there's any benefit to it. It almost seems like a bios type problem but not something I'm familiar with.
