Restart/Shutdown problems ?

Postby debsteve1 » Sun Jul 27, 2003 4:20 pm

Hi,
I have re-formated my hdd and re-loaded windows 98se back on the system and have started to re-load software etc.... However sometimes when i try to either restart or shutdown the pc it doesn't work (sometimes). I mean it either works fine or crashes (freezes) or gives me a blue screen with this error........ fatal exeption in vxd vmm (01) + 060 1309b. ANY help please with this one? I have disabled everything in the startup bit in msconfig as i don't wish to have anything running in the background. PLEASE help me Thanks Steve.

debsteve1....... Is that the exact error message? I can't get an exact hit on what you posted...
Most all the errors that come close have problems with either the CPU fan not working or a hardware driver that isn't right.
One other posible cause is a bad VXD system file. Have you run SFC?
You can do so by: Start / Run / Type in "sfc" (without the quotes). Start the "Scan for altered files". Follow the prompts and let us know what you come up with. brad

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. It is the exact error message, I'll try the SFC you said about and let you know the results. Thanks Steve
