Mouse delayed/sticking.

Postby lotusblossom02 » Wed Nov 02, 2005 2:10 am

Hi,
I am usure of what information you need so I'll run down the basics.
About 5 days ago my old mouse would start moving very slow and sparadic. Also when I would click a program to open it it would act like i had picked it up and it would start dragging it. This would be true for items along the taskbar as well.
At first I figured it was my mouse (it was just a logitech cordless mouse less than 2 years old updated to the latest drivers). So I switched my mouse to the one that currently works on the laptop (it's a cordless optical logitech for notebooks...plugs in via USB.) Again these were the latest drivers.
it seemed to take care of my problems until the next day. They started back up and in full force. So I shut down my PC and when I loaded it back up even on windows log in it was doing the same thing.
I thought maybe a key on my keyboard was stuck (it would be like if your continually holding in the shift key if i'm not mistaken). Switched keyboards.
Nothing.
I've not downloaded any new programs in the past week.
I am unsure if it's possibly a new virus or something; I currently run ZoneAlarm full security suite, PestPatrol, Ad-Aware SE, SpyBot S&D and all always come back clean. I only go to 1 website on the internet that I know for a fact is clean.
Some may ask well if that's all you do why would it matter...it totally revolves around using your mouse and fast.
I've tried everything I can think of and if anyone wants anymore info about what else i'm running, a HijackThis report, whatever i'll download and run it. I'm just totally frustrated about it. :( Both mice work on other pc's fine. it's just something with mine.
Thanks.
At the same time all this started btw I started experiencing some major lag on the 'net with refreshing webpages. I don't know if this has something to do with it or not.

Sounds to me like something is eating up all your CPU and making your computer lag. Hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and click on the Processes tab. Look for a program in there that is high in CPU, your System Idle Process at the bottom should be running anywhere from 70-99 CPU. If something other than the System Idle Process is running a very high CPU, it means that program is lagging you out. Write down the name of the process in question, then click on it and "end task". Let us know what the process is after you do that. If that's not the problem, you could try posting a HijackThis log.

as far as my system specs i'm running 768 MB PC 3200 RAM, AMD 2500 XP (not OC'ed), I have sufficient cooling (keeps my CPU around 40-45°C...which isn't bad for air cooled), Antec TruControl (I think?) 400w power supply, GeForce 5700 ULTRA, 128 MB of RAM, and soundblaster legacy 2 sound card.
*thinks* i think that's all the pertinanent info (and sorry if spellings are wrong i've had a 15 hour day and came home to this problem being even worse)

Also one other thing I forgot to note is that it goes in and out.
Sometimes the mouse works perfectly fine....for maybe 2-5 mins or so. Then it goes back to being major lagged, etc.
Last week my husband had some mouse problems as well (before my problems started) but when he went on the next day it was fine. Shortly after is when my problems started (we have our own computers same specs).

Your HJT log is clean.

I would suggest that you uninstall all your logitech mouse drivers through the control panel add and remove section
Then go to the System properties Device manager and remove your mouse from there as well.
Reboot the system and let windows find the new device and install the latest drivers.

It kind of sounds like you are running out of space on your hard drive :( .

XP needs twice your ram on board to operate properly 512x2=1 gig.

i only have roughly 10 gb used on my hard drive. (out of 60)
and why all of a sudden on the RAM would it do that? I've had my comp now for over 2 years and it just started last week? :| (not bashing just curious lol)

If you run out of ideas i may have few but i would have to send you a .reg file to update some registry settings , like the menudelay settings in the registry?

I have double checked your HJT log and confirmed it to be clean. You could have a few things contributing. Sticky-keys or possbile the delayed menu settings ext.Are you savy in those?

New problem tonight when i got home.
it takes everything at least 5 mins to load after clicking on it. then once everything starts running it goes in spurts (same as mouse now). it will run good for a couple mins then everything goes back to halt.
i am watching the system idle process all the while and it never goes below 89%.
could i possibly have some hardware going bad i wonder???

It sounds like it could be a chip on a ram stick going bad.
I would suggest that you download
Extract to a floppy or burn the ISO and boot from your selected device.
To get true results let it run for at least an hour.
If you get an error most likely you have a ram issue
