It's all down to the slot. And since the old AGP slot is pretty much gone now, you won't have any issues since everything is PCIe.

Find 'AGP' then 'PCIe' on wikipedia and you'll find all you need to know.

Yes, I understand the AGP/PCIe, I thought there was more to the graphics compatibility than just that, and assumed the mem had to be the same....just proves what happens when you assume!!!!!

There is a vast array of cards out there, and not knowing a lot about graphics cards, it gets kind of overwhelming.

If my graphics card requires 2x 6pin PCIe connectors, Will a PSU with 2x 6+2 pin work leaving the +2 unconnected? And if so.. will a PSU with 1x 6pin and 1x 6+2 pin work for the same card?

Wow, i dont know why this has taken the direction it has or how psymon meant his comment but to answer your question a 5.1 system will work.

You should have the option to set your sound card to 5.1 via the driver software that will be installed. Doing so usually will show a on screen diagram of which plugs to use to get the channels right. This of course varies from brand to brand but realtek has pretty user friendly interfaces.

Now, i dont think you asked a stupid question at all but there is such a thing.

Theres also more to video cards than just slot, theres SLi and Xfire to consider which relates to ATI, NVIDIA which relates to AMD and Intel. If you only intend to use 1 video card then its not nearly as important but if theres even the remote possibility they you will use two then we need to go over some things concerning it.

I think you'll be the happiest noob on the block. Everything looks great, nice clean case too. Once you get it up you will have to come back and post benchmark scores.


Speaking of, i need another medium for that as 3dMark is now so OS specific. If anyone knows of another good pc benchmarking tool im all ears.
